Similar to French Banyuls, this rustic Greek dessert wine makes an unusually interesting match with dark, not-too-sweet chocolate. Mavrodaphne is a transplant from the Ionian islands. When fortified lightly, it produces a nutty, slightly herbaceous wine with red fruit aromatics with a unique hay/straw note. More delicate in body than port or banyuls, it is a great dessert wine value.
